On April 10, 2018, National Shunt Services Limited (NSSL) was presented the Top Fleet Employer Award for 2018 by Trucking HR Canada, a human resources leader in the Canadian trucking industry. The Top Fleet Employers award was created in 2014, to honor outstanding employers in the Canadian trucking industry. This is the second Top Fleet Employer Award for NSSL in the past two years.

As part of the selection process, a panel of trucking industry experts evaluated fleets of every size and rated them on a variety of criteria including recruitment and retention practices, workplace culture, compensation, training and skills development and innovative human resources practices. The Top Fleet Employers Award recognizes fleets that offer the best workplaces in Canada’s trucking industry, as reflected in the broad range of human resources policies and programs they have in place.

National Shunt was honored among 52 of the best workplaces in Canada’s trucking and logistics industry. NSSL will be presented with the award at the gala awards dinner on October 11, 2018, in Toronto, Ontario.

“We’re proud to be honored as a top place to work for our employees,” says Ray Stewart, President of National Shunt. “The fact that we’ve won this award two years in a row tells us that we’re excelling at employee development, safety and satisfaction, which are what National Shunt is all about.”

NSSL employs more than 500 people across North America in strategic locations to service major transportation hubs. As a business that works on-site using heavy equipment and machinery, NSSL promotes a culture of safety among employees with frequent audits, inspections, training and evaluations.

“These 52 fleets demonstrate a commitment to strong human resources approaches. We commend them for their leadership in showcasing the trucking and logistics industry as a great place to work” says Angela Splinter, chief executive officer. “Now in our fifth year, we are especially proud to honour those achieving the Top Fleet Employer of Distinction status.”

Top Fleet Employers selection criteria, which has been validated by trucking industry experts, is reviewed annually to ensure an accurate reflection of human resources issues, trends, and today’s working environments. A team of human resources professionals oversee the assessment process.
