Shunting

Though indispensable to a logistics operation, shunting is just one part of the total yard management approach available to NSSL’s clients. The benefits of our stand-alone shunting services are amplified many times over when paired with our experienced logistics professionals, industry-leading software solution, and comprehensive caretaking of your entire supply chain.

Lifetime Yard Auditing We don’t just audit your yard once. We are continually evaluating your entire yard operation to identify new opportunities and potential threats. Never complacent.

Driver Staffing NSSL hand picks a team of career-oriented professionals who possess a level of expertise and professionalism unmatched by other yard operations management providers.

Driver Cross-Training NSSL’s drivers are cross-trained in multiple related disciplines. This further solidifies our customer’s ROI and helps guarantee an optimized yard operation no matter what challenges may arise.

Driver Safety Audits (SEE ME program) NSSL team drivers receive ongoing education and close monitoring to ensure total adherence to proper safety procedures. This diligent approach to driver education and training means NSSL drivers are the best in the business.

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) If you don’t already have documented standard operation procedures, we’ll help you create them. If SOPs are already in place, we’ll incorporate them into your implementation plan, ensuring compliance and optimal efficiency.

Late Model Vehicles To ensure uninterrupted yard operations, NSSL maintains a fleet made of late model trucks in peak operational condition. This ensures optimal fuel efficiency while avoiding unnecessary and costly delays often caused by older and/or poorly maintained vehicles.

Shunting FAQs

Shunting is considered to be the process of a shunt truck pinning to a designated trailer, moving this trailer to the planned location, and then dropping it in said location. Shunting is the continual flow of multiple shunts that occur to and from a yard’s doors to their multiple locations in the yard, throughout a working day.

On average, NSSL’s equipment is less than 2-3 years old. As an organization, we invest heavily in new and late model equipment to maximize efficiencies and avoid downtime related to older equipment.
